MOONDANCE: A night in the Afrofuture is a one of a kind celebration of blackness in future contexts. Curated by DJ/producer King Britt, the event is divided into three parts lecture, dance and music. The journey takes place Sunday, April 13 at MoMA PS1, 22-25 Jackson Ave, Long Island City, New York , Noon to 6 pm.
Performances include live deejay showcases and beat composition by innovative DJ/producers Shabazz Palaces, Fhloston Paradigm featuring Pia Ercole, HPrizm and Ras G. Spoken word artist Ursula Rucker will perform as well.
Afrofuturism author Ytasha L. Womack; Dr. Alondra Nelson, author of Body and Soul; and producing innovator Hank Shocklee of Public Enemy are the scheduled speakers for the evening. The lectures will highlight Afrofuturism and its role in transforming cultures.
D. Sabela Grimes, interdisciplinary choreographer will showcase the influence of Afrofuturism in Dance.
The event is part of MoMA PS1’s Sunday Sessions.
