EBONY.com Sheds Light on Herbie Hancock as Afrofuturist

Writer Michael A. Gonzalez writes about Herbie Hancock’s legacy in music in EBONY.com. The story is in celebration of a 34-disc box set released by Sony which commemorates Hancock’s music. A native Chicagoan, Hancock is a musical innovator and laid the foundation for what we now call Afrofuturism. He was a vanguarde in using electronic instruments in jazz, captured the essence of ideas about space in black culture through his music and album covers, and ultimately served as a bridge between traditional and electronic instruments in jazz and pop music. Gonzalez interviewed Ytasha L. Womack for the article, too. http://www.ebony.com/entertainment-culture/the-futureshock-of-herbie-hancock-333/2#axzz2k4YQKeUI
